Happy First Day of Summer!

So today is the first "real" day of summer. The sun is shinning, the birds are....wait....the sun isn't shinning...what's up with that?

Well here's some things that tell me it's summer anyways and that Summer has been here for a while...sun or no sun!

My brother in law found the sweetest little baby raccoons (there were 4) that had obviously lost their moma but they seem to have thought Nick could be their new one.

The Sunsets

The Bugs

The Yard Sale Finds!

I found this sweet little old lantern for just a quarter!

And the vase I found for 1.00 that I filled with Lupins (for free)
I also got a mini iron board and a pattern for just 1.75.

And this (not yet) wonderful ottoman. I'm going to reupholster for my daughter and son's room to go with their little rocker. This was a steal at 2.00. Can't wait to start & finish it!

HORRAY FOR SUMMER!

Gift For Teacher

End of school year is getting close and of course I have to get the teacher something for making my daughter's first year so wonderful. She really is an amazing teacher. I didn't want to get her one of those crummy teacher gifts that say #1 Teacher...sorry to all those who give them. I just feel as though they have a million and one of them sitting in the basement of their home just collecting dust because who really has enough room for years and years of gifts from every child they've ever taught? So I thought...why not get her something she can enjoy and look good with at the same time...nothing to make her chubby like chocolate, nothing to make her feel silly like a sweater with a crayon apple and chalk on it...but something anyone would love to receive, not teacher generic.

So here it is...the reveal

Cute Right?
Not bad for not doing this on a regular basis.
I think she'll love it, I always see her wearing these colors.
I've titled this piece, BEACH GLASS

FINALLY I'm inspired!

Remember my picture frame post?
Well, if you don't, here's a recap...

I was lacking inspiration as to what to put in the top space...a monogramed L ? Our last name? I couldn't think...nor could I find the rub on transfers that I wanted to use to do so. Sooooo...last weekend I went thrifting and found a box of old rubber stamp letters and numbers, and today a little voice said to me...USE THEM. So not to make the little voice angry
I did just as it said...

After thinking about it, talking to myself and my little voices must look ridiculously silly I must be looking pretty crazy to the unseen eye asking them..ok so I have the letters - what now?, so I started to laugh out loud. Hence leading to this.

Though the photo doesn't show it real well. The letters turned out a little lighter in some areas..adding to the vintage-y goodness!

The white in the centre of my frame is the thermostat. I haven't placed the hooks on the back of it to hang yet so this is what I had to use..but you get the gist.
I JUST LOVE IT!
and will probably end up putting it in my bath room because the colors match..or gifting it?

Dressy Goodness..

I am SO proud of myself today!

I'm not an excellent sewer...but I found this idea on a "A Crafty Escape" and had to try it out.

Pillow Case Dresses...not just for anyone...but for children in Africa. I'm hoping to make a good dozen and if I complete that maybe some "britches" for the boys! If you want to help the cause, visit the blog I found these on to get more information. Please, feel free to let me know your thoughts on what I've been able to come up with.

Weekend Wonderful

I want to share with you a little about my wonderful weekend - before I do my "real" weekly post - which should be coming very soon...

We planned yet another trip to the beach..this was so that I could be in search for both drift wood and shells, maybe even get lucky and find some sand dollars if the tide was out enough.

BUT before we went there we stopped at my favorite second hand store back home and found

THIS...

OMG...I know right?
It's in the cutest white linen covered frame...I love it! It's going to set in my entry on my thrifted table!

To the beach.....

So after scouring the beach we found some fabulous finds - No sand dollars but non the less...

This nice little glass cylinder/platform I found on Thursday at my favorite thrift store for just 2.00. This glass was my inspiration for wanting MORE shells...as if there wasn't enough shells kicking around this house...but you can never have too many I always say. It's now sitting in my guest room on the long dark dresser.

It's LOVE

AND then we found THIS! (well I did) Let's give credit where credit is due!

Yes, a peice of wood...not just any wood though...drift wood...stay tuned to see my vision for this one later! Will it be my weekly post?

Maybe

We also found more small pieces of drift wood sticks but I haven't found enough for what I am looking to do so I will post those at a later date when I have all that I need.

I LOVE THE BEACH!

Peonies Are A Problem

After looking on several chic and cottage blogs I have decided that I am in LOVE with peonies...I want to put a canvas print above the bed in the new guest room and need your help as to which print to place there. This is what I was thinking...what do you think?

There's also this one...

(this image was taken from Canadian Cottage) LOVE

Which one? Please help me choose
How do I choose one peony over the other? I love them both!

I also thought I would share with you what the guest room looked like when we bought the house!

Before:
This is a scanned photo so the quality is poor.
mmmm...love that indoor outdoor astro-turf and the speckled walls
How could we have ever gotten rid of this amazing place of rest?

The Reveal....

Can you see the amazing transformation?

No?

Really?

Look again......

Nothin' ?

Well that must be because...

.....

............

....

.........

.....

....we didn't get it done.....

After checking the budget we realized that this project will have to wait a little longer and we will putter away if we can find some extra MooLa. However, this weekend wasn't a complete loss - My parents came up for a visit (and to bring my daughters bunk beds) and we did manage to go thrifting and find a few things that inspired a wonderful project in it's own. Though it is not finished it's well on it's way. Check it out..we'll first maybe I should tell you the story.

Since the rents were up visiting and delivering bunk beds for the little ones to now share a room...we decided to make miss Emily's room now into the guest room...switching the spare bed from Cohen's room into her old room...yadda yadda yadda...The plus side..now guests won't have to sleep in the same room as mr man and annoy their sleep pattern when he unexpectingly wakes up, another plus, miss Emily now won't be sad because she has to sleep "alone"...the bad news...My parents now had to sleep in a bubblegum PINK room...Me Ma despises pink..
Here's a quick photo of the color of Ema's room

The bed was my mom's...hence the buying of the bunk beds...did I mention they were on kijiji for 110.00? The same ones they sell at WalMart for 249.00...what a deal!

Here's a Photo of the Room before we moved in....

Love that green indoor outdoor astro turf...mmmm
And the splatter walls...sooo beautiful.. :P

I bought this table months ago at a thrift store for THREE dollars...Yup I typed correctly THREE. I feel in love with it right away...It had a broken hinge and the base boards of the seat wobbled. But it was amazing and for the price...I WASN'T leaving it...So with a few squaks from the husband he loaded it into our bitty car and away we went.
WOW this story is getting long and maybe a shade bit all over the place..ok to the point -
Yesterday I found a wonderful can of paint at our favorite hardware store while we were pricing the remaining products we needed for our dining room. A "MISTINT" quart for FIVE dollars. It was just what I had been looking for - isn't it funny how things just fall into your lap? I immediately thought of my fab desk find back home while tucking it under my arm and dashing (as if someone were trying to fight me for it, when realistically there was not a soul in sight) The photos below are after a fresh coat of the wonderful discount paint

Hehee did you notice where I painted my house numbers for the door redo? ; )

And since this was so wonderful, it inspired this >>. (Keep in mind it's not finished yet...this was spontaneous...)

I know it looks "not quite so" now but give it time...this was again a last minute decision - there's also a shabby chandelier I am planning on hanging in here....
Let me know your thoughts and suggestions...I love to hear them - and know this -

I don't feel sooooo bad about the dining room being held off. I actually have a beachy chic retreat to get away from it all...

Here's a total cost of Guest Room so far:

5.00 for the mistint paint on the Desk
3.00 for the Desk
2.50 for the bed skirt from a thrift store
2.50 for the bed sheets again from a thrift store
0.00 for green and blue decor pillows
0.00 paint on wall..mixed from left over paint in the basement
0.00 for blanket at the end of bed...from our old bedroom decor
13.00 for lamp from Value Village
1.50 for shower curtain (blanket) on end of bed
3.00 for white sheers from a yard sale this weekend
2.00 curtain rod from a thrift store
*and I think .25cents for the bell on the desk (note here the previous blog post that shows this wonderful find "remember the mother's day bell?")

= 32.25 plus applicable taxes ; )

The Dining Project Begins and ENDS this weekend...well one can only hope...

Here's a few pictures taken today after a few minor area's have been addressed earlier this month...but the "fun" begins tomorrow!
